College Profile: Central Texas College
Central Texas College {CTC) is a community college located in Killeen, Texas, which was founded in 1965. As defined by the Texas Legislature, the official service area of CTC comprises the following: all of Coryell, Hamilton, Lampasas, Llano, Mason, Mills, and San Saba Counties,
the Killeen Independent School District, located in Bell County,
the Copperas Cove Independent School District, located in Bell and Coryell Counties,
Fort Hood and North Fort Hood in Bell County,
the Brady, Lohn, and Rochelle school districts located within McCullough County,
the Burnet Consolidated Independent School District located within Burnet County,
the Florence and Marble Falls school districts, and
the portion of the Lampasas Independent School District located within Burnet and Bell Counties. Due to its proximity to Fort Hood, CTC has evolved from a small junior college into a college catering to the military. In addition to the central campus, CTC runs a Continental campus, a Navy campus, a European campus, a campus in the Pacific Far East, and a separate campus on Fort Hood. In addition, classes are held at many military bases, and the college ranks 5th in the nation among all colleges and universities in terms of online enrollment. At the main campus in Killeen, the courtyard has a memorial to Lyndon Baines Johnson, and a fountain by which are metal markers indicating the boundary between Bell and Coryell Counties. CTC's library is named in honor of Oveta Culp Hobby. CTC's older buildings are known for their Mexican influences. CTC offers a number of two-year Associate Degrees in various fields such as Computer Science, Nursing, Journalism, and so forth. CTC follows programs set up through eArmyU, and also offers full transferability of credits with University of Maryland University College. CTC is also home to the PBS station KNCT-FM. State Representative Jimmie Don Aycock of Killeen is a past treasurer of the Central Texas College board of trustees. Central Texas College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
