Western Dakota Technical Institute is a public institution of higher learning where students acquire the knowledge, skills and behaviors necessary for successful employment.
Western Dakota Tech is the only technical institute that serves the western South Dakota region. WDT offers more than 20 programs in a variety of fields, including Business, Construction Trades, Health Services, Human Services, and Manufacturing and Mechanical Trades. More than 95 percent of WDT graduates are placed in careers within six months of graduation, and more than 88 percent live and work in South Dakota. WDT offers Associate of Applied Science degrees and diplomas.
WDT faculty, staff, and administration focus their efforts on helping students gain the skills and experiences they need to succeed. Through hands-on learning, internships, and industry partnerships, WDT students graduate ready to make a real and immediate contribution to their employers and to their communities.

Through the Corporate Education Center, a wide variety of non-credit classes, workshops, and short-term training programs are available. Investing in lifelong learning leads employees toward more satisfying, productive working lives and assists employers in enhancing job performance, teamwork, and overall competitiveness.
Western Dakota Tech is located in Rapid City in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. Rapid City is located on Interstate 90 approximately 60 miles from the Wyoming border. If you are driving from the east or west on I-90 take exit 61 and follow the signs. We are located on East Highway 44 at 800 Mickelson Drive.
Rapid City is the second largest city in the state, the metro area has a population of over 70,000. The area is a major tourist area with over 3.2 million visitors annually. Mount. Rushmore National Memorial is 21 miles from Rapid City, and Crazy Horse Monument is approximately 30 miles.
Sports enthusiasts and nature lovers will find plenty of opportunities in the Black Hills. Abundant trout streams entice fishermen and kayakers. There are two ski resorts within an hours drive of campus. Snowmobilers enjoy over 200 miles of groomed trails throughout the hills. Bikers and hikers find a marvelous system of trails including the Mickelson Trail which runs from Deadwood to Edgemont, a distance of 115 miles. The Black Hills is truly a sportsman's paradise.
