Pittsburgh Technical Institute (PTI) is a private two-year post-secondary school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA offering associate degrees and short-term certificate programs. PTI has two locations in western Pennsylvania: the primary 180-acre North Fayette Campus in Oakdale, which first opened in July 2001, and the PTI-Cranberry Center at the Regional Learning Alliance in Cranberry Woods. The institution first opened its doors in 1946 as a single-discipline career training school. Since then, it has expanded course offerings to include business, design, medical, computer, criminal justice, and technical fields. Through PTI's Center for Certification and Adult Learning (CCAL), nontraditional students prepare for the workforce and take advantage of shorter, more flexible evening schedules some with online components. Most of the institution's educational programs include an in-field industry internship to help students foster personal confidence, build resumes, develop a network of professional contacts and, in some cases, secure full-time employment. PTI's Graduates Services Department works with students as they prepare for graduation, supports new graduates in their job search, helps experienced alumni relocate or secure advanced employment, and assists employers match job openings to PTI candidates. All of these services are offered at no charge to the student and the employer. In addition, PTI alumni can return to the institution for alumni brush-up classes offered twice annually.
Pittsburgh Technical Institute is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSA), 3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA, 19104, 267.284.5000, (www.msche.org). MSA is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
Nearly 40 percent of the student population lives in school-sponsored housing, which is offered at complexes in neighborhoods surrounding the North Fayette Campus and coordinated by the institution's Housing Department. Beginning around the start of the summer 2008 quarter, PTI began construction for on campus housing next to their campus in Oakdale. The project is planned to be completed in time for the summer 2009 quarter. Its Student Activities Department plans a calendar of student activities and community service projects. In 2007 PTI received the Community Service Award from the Pennsylvania Association of Private School Administrators and was recognized with a Community Service Award in 2005 from the Career College Association. PTI is the only 2 year career school in Pennsylvania that is accredited by The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The institution received its initial grant of acreditation in 2002. On March 8, 2007, Middle States reaffirmed PTI's accreditation.
