Franklin & Marshall College (abbreviated as "F&M") is a four-year private co-educational liberal arts college in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. It is the 25th-oldest institution for higher education, as well as the 17th-oldest college in the United States. It employs 175 full-time faculty members and has a student body of approximately 1,980 full-time students. In 2008, F&M was ranked as 40th on U.S. News & World Report's annual list of America's 215 liberal arts colleges. It was also ranked #1 in the nation for "Faculty accessibility" by The Princeton Review.[citation needed] The college is a member of the Centennial Conference. For the Class of 2011 Admissions Cycle, the acceptance rate dropped to 37%, making it F&M's most selective class yet.

Mission Statement

Franklin & Marshall is a residential college dedicated to excellence in undergraduate liberal education. Its aims are to inspire in young people of high promise and diverse backgrounds a genuine and enduring love for learning, to teach them to read, write, and think critically, to instill in them the capacity for both independent and collaborative action, and to educate them to explore and understand the natural, social and cultural worlds in which they live. In so doing, the College seeks to foster in its students qualities of intellect, creativity, and character, that they may live fulfilling lives and contribute meaningfully to their occupations, their communities, and their world.
