College Profile: Hillyard Technical Center
OUR MISSION IS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH ENTRY LEVEL SKILLS AND TECHNICAL TRAINING NECESSARY TO OBTAIN OR MAINTAIN EMPLOYMENT AND/OR TO CONTINUE THEIR EDUCATION.
The philosophy of Hillyard Technical Center is to provide the type of technical training that will be suitable to the individual and meet the needs of business and industry. Our purpose is to equip students, both secondary and adult, who participate in trade, technical, industrial, business, or health occupations training, to the degree of competency that will enable them to compete in the labor market for entry-type jobs or to become better trained in order to advance in their present jobs.
Career center programs offer you many advantages over traditional four-year academic institutions. For example, many programs are designed to be flexible, offering classes in the evening, on the weekend, and as individual seminars. And unlike universities that offer a broad-based curriculum, career center programs focus on specific areas of study. This means you receive education in a subject you enjoy, without having to study the subjects you don't.
A career center education is also designed to prepare you for employment. Many career center instructors are professionals or experts in their field. By learning from people who work in the profession, you can receive a "hands on" education, learning valuable skills that can be applied to future work situations. Many schools also provide learning facilities and equipment similar to those found in "real world" work environments. In addition, if your career requires a license to be employed, career centers can teach you the exact skills needed to get one.
Whether you're a high school student anxious to begin learning a trade, or an adult interested in continuing your education, career centers can prepare you for a career that fits your personality, interests, and talents.
