Husson University is a private University located in Bangor, Maine, USA, aptly named after its founder Chesley Husson, founded in 1898. Husson was originally named Shaw School of Business and was located on the second floor of a building in downtown Bangor. Enrollment was low until after World War II, when its reputation grew as a business school. Today the University has five schools: Business, Health, Education, Pharmacy, Science and Humanities. Bangor Theological Seminary and the New England School of Communications, two separate institutions independent of Husson, are also housed on the campus. Husson offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education, the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE), International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education, State of Maine Department of Education, American Association of Intensive English Programs, and the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service. Enrollment for the 2005-2006 academic year was over 2,000 students, with approximately 400 of those in graduate programs. The current physical layout of the Husson University Campus includes Newman Gymnasium, the O'Donnell Commons, home to the Schools of Education and Health, the Peabody academic building, Dickerman Dining Hall, the Dyke Center for Family Business, the NESCom building and the residence halls (Hart, Carlisle, and Bell), The Gracie Meeting House along with off campus residential apartments for upperclassmen. Two walking trails circle the outer perimeter and offer scenic walks through the Maine forest. Husson University is a member of the NCAA Division III and fields nine varsity sports teams. There are dozens of student clubs and organizations, mostly professional, as well as the Outdoors Club, Technology Club, Diversity Club, and GAMERS (Games Anime Manga Entertainment Recreational Society). Information for all club organizations can be obtained at student activities. Husson College will officially be renamed Husson University on October 11, 2008.
