Criminal Justice (Associate Degree)
Santa Barbara Business College's Criminal Justice program is designed for those with interest in criminal justice classes as a way to obtain a career in criminal justice or security. As a multifaceted program of study, Criminal Justice students will be prepared for entry-level employment or advancement in law enforcement, corrections, probation, immigration, security services and comparable types of employment. Students preparing for careers in criminal justice and security will study private, industrial and retail security. This is not a training program for police or corrections officers. However, it will provide a broad understanding of the criminal justice system in the United States and a fundamental knowledge of social and behavioral sciences.

Legal Office Systems (Diploma Program)
Preparing students for work in the legal profession is the objective of the Legal Office Systems program. Students will be taught valuable legal office skills and receive thorough training in legal terminology, legal processes, legal procedures and legal computer software, including WordPerfect. Specific emphasis is placed on law and ethics, family law, criminal law, business law, civil law, probate law and wills and trusts. In addition to legal skills, students will develop proficiency in critical skills for efficient legal office management and law office administration. Graduates will be qualified for employment in legal and related fields.

If you want to be a member of a professional healthcare team, the Medical Assisting program can prepare you for an exciting career in the medical field. General duties of a Medical Assistant include preparing patients for treatment, assisting physicians with treatment, preparing and sterilizing instruments, and front office management. In addition to medical office courses, Medical Assisting students will become certified in phlebotomy and learn how to operate EKG equipment. Strong emphasis is also placed on document coding, insurance forms and medical terminology. The graduate will be qualified for employment in a medical office, clinic, hospital or insurance billing office. Graduates will qualify and are strongly encouraged to sit for a national certification test to become Registered Medical Assistants.

Paralegal (Associate Degree)
Paralegals are important members of a legal team and work in law offices, large corporations and for the government. The Santa Barbara Business College Paralegal program is designed to comprehensively cover theory and applications of procedures used by paralegals. Legal training enables graduates to assist attorneys in areas such as research; reporting; and preparation of legal documents, agreements, exhibits and other relevant tasks prior to trial as part of their paralegal careers. In the program, students are also taught client interviewing skills, basic investigative techniques, how to conduct legal research, and the art of briefing case law. Post-graduate employment will primarily target private law offices, but placement opportunities also exist in bank trust departments, insurance companies and government at all levels.
