College Profile: Feather River Community College District
Feather River College is a comprehensive, public, two-year community college serving Plumas County and the Northern California Sierra region. College programs and services provide accessible, affordable, high-quality post-secondary education that prepares students to enter the job market, allows them to transfer to senior colleges and universities, and assists them in achieving their educational and personal goals. Through its programs and services, the college equitably provides higher education opportunities and supports the economic growth of the community.
Student activities and our location in the one of the most diverse outdoor playgrounds in the world provide students with the opportunity to enhance their educational experience in ways that other colleges and universities can’t.
FRC offers two-year AA/AS degrees, as well as certificate programs, transfer degrees, and occupational programs such as vocational nursing. FRC also features several unique outdoor programs, including Outdoor Recreation Leadership, Equine Studies, and Environmental Studies. These programs offer students looking for something different the opportunity to study and learn in the “million-acre classroom” of the Plumas National Forest. These programs develop leadership, communication, business, and hands-on training skills that can be used to go straight to work or to transfer to a four-year university.
Perched on a mountain side forested with pine and oak, Feather River College is tucked away in one of California's hidden, quiet spots. Bordering Plumas National Forest, the 256-acre campus hosts a variety of wildlife, including a resident deer herd.
Far removed from the bustle of city life, the campus provides a sanctuary for self discovery, study and relaxation. Academic rigor is maintained in a friendly, informal atmosphere by a faculty dedicated to student growth and success. In addition to the classrooms and laboratories, the campus features unique facilities that include a trout hatchery and an equestrian center with horse boarding facilities. Feather River College is a public, two year community college, fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
