College Profile: United States Sports Academy
The United States Sports Academy is a specialized university located in Daphne, Alabama, that offers degree and non-degree programs in sports instruction and sports research. Past Academy graduates include Iowa State University Head Basketball Coach Greg McDermott; Texas Tech Head Football Coach Mike Leach; Dennis Lindsey of the Houston Rockets; Texas Christian Head Women’s Basketball Coach Jeff Mittie; University of Texas Associate Athletics Director Lynn Wheeler and Nashville Predators Director of Hockey Operations Michael Santos. Beginning with the 2003-2004 academic year, the school began sponsoring the NACDA Director's Cup. In 2007, the Academy awarded an honorary doctoral degree to Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, the president of East Timor. Recipients in previous years include such personas as Howard Cosell, General Norman Schwarzkopf, Kofi Annan, Ted Turner, and George W. Bush.
